Diffusers are especially useful for installation on the main-lines where thermodynamic steam traps are installed and are discharging into the atmosphere.
The Role of Diffusers in Steam Distribution
In a steam distribution network, diffusers are critical safety accessories fitted to the atmospheric outlet of thermodynamic steam traps. Thermodynamic traps operate by intermittently discharging large volumes of hot condensate, which, if released directly into the open atmosphere, creates a noisy, forceful blast that poses a severe scalding risk to personnel and causes localised ground erosion. The primary role of a diffuser is to dampen the high velocity of this discharge. By breaking down the kinetic energy, diffusers transform the scattered, dangerous blast into a gentle and muffled flow, thereby significantly reducing acoustic noise levels, preventing surface erosion, and ensuring a safe working environment for plant operators.
